Lean on Me Ladies Club was born from a simple yet powerful idea—creating a space where women can connect, support, and uplift one another.
As the Queen Mother of the club, I would describe myself as someone who was once socially awkward. A dear friend encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, reminding me that while no one seeks misfortune, it often finds us. This led me to reflect on the fact that many Ghanaian ladies living in Oslo were isolated in their own circles. As someone who struggled to make friends, I wondered—how do I build meaningful connections?
I shared my thoughts with my husband, who laughed and said, "You're bad at making friends—you might bring trouble upon us!" But I refused to let that stop me.
One day, while chatting with a friend, I suggested forming a small group where we could meet, visit each other, and socialize. She suggested a "susu" (a traditional savings group) instead, since past attempts to start a ladies' club had not succeeded. The idea lingered in my mind until another moment of inspiration struck.
I reached out to another friend, who then invited someone else, and soon, the idea gained momentum. We agreed to take action after our vacation. Months later, in February 2020, the vision started coming to life when we met with other dynamic ladies at an event. I shared our plan, and to my delight, it was warmly embraced.
In March 2020, we officially formed the Lean on Me Ladies Club, and the rest is history. Today, we are a thriving community of strong, supportive women dedicated to fostering friendship, empowerment, and personal growth.
